What emergency tarping is
A roof tarp is temporary protection. It keeps rain out of the attic, ceilings, and rooms below until a licensed roofer can make permanent repairs. We do not repair roofs; we stop the water and dry the inside.
We tarp after hurricanes and summer storms, after a tree or limb goes through the roof, and after fires that burned through the roof deck.
How we tarp a roof
- Photograph the damage before it is covered
- Lay a heavy tarp well past the edges of the damage
- Fasten it with battens so it holds in wind
- Board up broken windows and doors at the same visit
- Extract water that came in and dry the ceilings, walls, and floors below
- Give you photos and a written record for your roofer and your insurer
Insurance
Most policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage after a loss, and a tarp is one of them. Coverage depends on your policy. We document the tarp and the damage. You keep the claim; we are not a public adjuster.
